Tracy Schohr is the California Cattlemen’s Association’s Rangeland Conservation Director. Tracy coordinates the California Rangeland Conservation Coalition, a partnership between environmentalists, agriculture and local, state and federal government agencies. This position provides leadership to the Rangeland Coalition and facilitates discussions and actions amongst partners. Schohr also works to create new conservation incentives for private landowners, while maintaining and enhancing existing programs. This position is made possible by a cooperative agreement that leverages funds from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the California Cattlemen's Association (CCA).
Starting with CCA in March 2005, Tracy said she was initially drawn to the position of Director of Industry affairs at CCA because of the opportunity to work on agricultural policy topics, specifically water issues, but she has come to realize that her current position is an even better fit for her.
Schohr resides in her hometown of Gridley, where she grew up on a Hereford ranch and rice farm. In 2004, she graduated with honors from California State University, Chico, with a degree in Agricultural Business. Tracy said specific actions of her position include advocating for additional public funding for voluntary conservation easements and enhancement projects on private lands; supporting scientific research on grazing the state's grasslands; education and outreach on the natural resource benefits of grazing, reduction of the estate tax, interagency collaboration and much more. This position is made possibly through funds leveraged funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
