First Vice President Tom Talbot, DVM

Tom Talbot currently serves as the first vice president of the California Cattlemen’s Association. Born and raised near Bishop, Tom’s father was a cow-calf producer. Following his roots, Tom attended veterinary school at the University of California, Davis and later returned to Bishop where he and his wife, Laura, have four children.

Now a cow-calf producer himself, Tom and his brother William work in the family business together. When Tom isn’t running the cattle business, he can be found at the Bishop Veterinary Hospital, where he has worked for the past 30 years.

Having a broad knowledge of the animal science industry, Tom brings many assets to CCA members. He said he knows cattle from a producer’s standpoint as well as a businessman’s standpoint and feels he can communicate with ranchers anywhere in between.

“I am first and foremost a cattle producer,” Tom said. “I do it because I enjoy it. What other reason is there?”

Aside from being a CCA officer, Talbot is active throughout the industry, serving as a past president of the Inyo Mono-Alpine Cattlemen’s Association, a member of the CCA Cattle Health Committee, a director on the board for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Policy Division and is a member of the Harris Ranch Partnership for Quality. He has also been on the Bishop Elementary School Board, was an American Youth Soccer Organization commissioner, a little league coach and a 4-H leader. The many facets in which Tom has served add much knowledge and expertise to CCA.

“I know what concerns me as a producer, and I think I know what concerns other producers. I look forward to taking those concerns and making the most of my time with CCA.”
