Vice President of Government Relations Susan LaGrande
Susan LaGrande is the Vice President of Government Relations at the California Cattlemen’s Association. As farmers and ranchers often do not have the time to tackle complex governmental issues, Susan analyzes and evaluates legislation and its potential impacts on California’s beef industry. Moreover, it is her responsibility to work with the state legislature to represent the best efforts of the industry.
Originally from Williams, Susan grew up on a rice and cattle ranch. She said she feels very strongly about the role agriculture plays in the daily lives of all Americans and said it is important to her to play a role in the helping continue the success of the industry.
An agribusiness graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Susan worked for the Lake County and Shasta County Farm Bureau offices as well as the California Legislature prior to taking her current CCA position.
Susan said she enjoys working with the members to help them further the success of their operations. Starting with CCA in 2001, Susan feels the role of government relations is important to CCA members because it ensures that someone is participating in the activities of the California Legislature on behalf of all California beef producers.
“I have a vested interest in the future of California agriculture,” Susan said. “I work to inform the members through committees, publications and meetings about things happening on a state level that can impact them. I want just as badly as anyone to see agriculture get the credit it deserves.”
