Feeder Council Chair David Wood
David Wood of Coalinga serves the California Cattlemen’s Association as the vice chair of the Feeder Council.
David is also the chief operating officer and Beef Division chairman for Harris Farms, Inc., the largest cattle feeder on the West Coast. Harris Ranch Beef Company is
California’s largest beef processor, and has been an innovative leader in developing fully-cooked, heat-and-serve beef entrees.
An animal science graduate from California Polytechnic Univeristy in San Luis Obispo, David owns a cow/calf operation, and runs approximately 20,000 yearlings annually in four western states. He also produces almonds, pistachios, wheat, alfalfa, cotton, garlic and vegetables. He also works with local FFA, 4-H and youth athletic programs.
David served as chairman of the Cattlemens Beef Board in 1995, the California Cattle Feeder's Association in 1997 and 1998, the California Beef Council in 1990 and the Western States Meat Association from 1992-1994. He has also served on the U.S. Meat Export Federation Executive Committee.
Wood is a past winner of NCBA’s Cattle Business of the Century Award and National Environmental Stewardship Award. He was also named California Livestock Man of the Year in 2001, and was honored by the National Cattlemen's Foundation with the 2003 Beef Industry Vision Award.
David recently became the new president-elect of Cattle-Fax, a member-owned and member-operated organization based in Englewood, Colo., that serves all segments of the cattle business. |
