Bill Brandenberg, El Centro, was born and raised in the Imperial Valley. A
third generation cattleman, Brandenberg said he always had more of a fondness
for the cattle side of the family business than the farming.
“I always liked being around cattle and learning more about what it took to be
successful in the industry.” Brandenberg said. “It is a hard way of life to
survive in, but I have always enjoyed conquering the challenges that go with
being involved in the cattle feeding industry.”
Brandenberg graduated from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, in
1973 with degrees in Animal Science and Ag Business Management before moving
home to help run the family feedlot. He and his wife, Kathy, have three
children, Scott, Laura and Lance.
Brandenberg has a long history of serving the beef industry, having demonstrated
his leadership in numerous roles at the state and national levels. As a
long-standing member of the California Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), he served
as chairman of CCA’s Feeder Council in 1986-1987 and 2002-2003. He also served
on the CCA Long-Range Planning Committee (2001-2002).
In addition, Brandenberg served as chairman of the California Beef Council in
1986. He also represented the state of California as a member of the Cattlemen’s
Beef Board (CBB) in 1999; the CBB’s Operating Committee in 1998 and 1999; was
the CBB Administration Sub-Committee Chair in 1999; and as co-chair of the Joint
Industry Long Range Planning Committee in 2000. Brandenberg was also the
Chairman of the Ag Policy Committee of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association
(NCBA) from 2002 through 2003 and chairman of the NCBA’s Check-off Working Group
in 2006. Last year, he served on the NCBA Governance Task Force.
